Year End Performance / Celebration of Learning
The year has come to the end with our final celebration of learning, the Year End Performance. Every student did a fabulous job and it was a fitting end to the year for all the grades to show how they are "Committed to Progress". Here are videos of the musical performances from Grades 2 and 3; Land of the Silver Birch and 3 R's!

Letters from their Past Self
On the last day of school we are busy putting together portfolios, taking work home, and saying good bye to friends but the students also had a chance to go to the past with a visit from their past self! Students finally got back the letters that they wrote to their future self at the beginning of the year. It was a fun time for the students to see if they met their goals, improved their writing and reflect on the year.
Independent Inquiry Presentations
This week the students presented the research and learning they did on their own independent inquiries. They used the skills and attitudes with their curiosity about whatever topic they wanted to inquire, create and present. The topics included volcanoes, fashion design, psychology, the military, violins, guitars, dinosaurs, asteroids, and birds. Everyone did a great job using everything they've learned this year to do this independently! Here are some photos of their presentations.

How We Organize Ourselves Inquiry - Creating an Organization
For our last unit of inquiry we have been looking into how "people create organizations to solve problems and support progress." The students have been working in groups to make a plan for their own organization that works to solve a problem in the world that they think is important. They have been making a website to organize and share their knowledge of the problem and persuade people to want to volunteer for jobs they need done or donate to their cause. The students have come up with different ways to persuade and inform people such as music, videos, posters, a magazine, and a comic strips! Below, are their logos with links to their website and then some pictures and videos of them hard at work.

Ima nanji desuka?
Grade 2 students learned how to read clocks in Japanese.
Some students were very confident to write time because we already studied numbers in Kanji.
We say the hours first, then the minutes.
For example, 6:05 is roku ji go hun.
Ji(時)means "o'clock." "Fun or pun(分)" is "minutes."
We also learned the special word for 30 minutes. It is said "30 pun" or "Han(半)" means half.
JNL students also read "Su-ho no shiroi uma" from their Kokugo textbook this week.
