This week students have been busy learning routines for our "Word Study" time and how to think deeper about phonics and spelling patterns to help them with reading.  We've also been practicing find character traits on the inside and outside, along with making connections with our reading books to our own lives, the world, and other books. One of the highlights of the week for the kids was music class where they began learning to play the recorder along with Mr. Apperson's third grade class.

Here the students are practicing how to remember the notes on a pentatonic scale by jumping to and from cushions that represented each note of the scale.

They also learned how to play Hot Cross Buns.

I missed the opportunity to get photos of splatter painting the backgrounds and making hand prints but here are some final touches on drawing and coloring the faces.

 And the final products!
